100 Days: Making sure every child has a place at a good local school

In our report 'Investing in our nation's future: the first 100 days of the next government' we set out what the new government will need to do to secure a bright future for the people of this country.

We pledged that if a radical and devolved model for public services is put in place, councils will be able to commit, over the course of the next Parliament, to offer every child a place at a good school close to home, to give them the best possible start in life.

Councils have a unique responsibility to make sure that there is a school place for every child and face a huge increase in demand. But decisions about funding new places and opening new schools have also been increasingly centralised.
